Historic: The “York Coupe” 1932 FORD 5 Window Coupe Hot Rod built in 1957
“York Coupe” built by Glen “Rudy” Rudisill York PA in 1957 for Laverne A. Stetzer of York PA USA
The “York Coupe” is a magnificent piece of genuine 50s hot rodding history and a time capsule as well as it has remained largely unchanged since it was built in 1957. I love it exactly the way it is. It’s perfect. Chips and all.

1932 FORD CHANNELED YORK PA HOT ROD
Jim Kroll - Ohio
This rod was built by Glen “Rudy” Rudisill and his father at his father’s shop in York, PA, G.E. Rudisill & Sons in 1957, (as per a conversation with Rudy 12-13-2006). It came to them in pieces and parts when they took the job. The rod was built for Laverne A. Stetzer of York. Laverne made payments on Rudy’s ’56 Ford Victoria as work was performed on the rod.
The body was channeled over a Z’d frame and a ’49 Mercury dash was installed, 40’s Ford brakes were used. Fenders were cropped or bobed and the car was painted blue, same paint as it is now. The Hemi engine, ’52 Chrysler 331 cu in. was installed by Rudy but had a spun bearing before car was really ready to go places. The engine wasn’t repaired and after several years Laverne sold the car to a couple of fellows from Violet Hills (York), PA who never did anything with the car as far as anybody knows.
Rudy and his father also built a couple Model “A” coupes prior to the ’32 with a ’49 Mercury dash but installed an Oldsmobile engine in one and a Pontiac in the other. The Old’s is still in the Pennsylvania area but has had multiple modifications to it since being built in 1955. Where abouts of the Pontiac engined Model “A” is unknown.
According to Jerry Duncan this Deuce hot rod was never raced but it was noted on a scrap of paper that came with the car that it last ran at the US 30 Drag Strip in York in the early ‘70’s against a Silver Plymouth, unknown and undocumented. Also, there is a winners sticker on the quarter window that says it was a Class Winner at the US 30 Dragway.
Duncan states that the history of the car is that it was built in 1959 by Glen Rudisill and stored for over 30 years out of sight, out of mind until Karl Nishwitz bought it in approximately 1990. Glen corrected the build date to 1957. Jerry is the one that said the car had a spun bearing. He states that the hot rod is a very nice example of East Coast Styling. There is a PA Registration Inspection sticker for this car with Serial No. SO****PA dated July 31, 1970. So, it was out of hiding for a while and could have raced. Maybe this is when it spun a bearing.
